Burlap Book Cover

Burlap is my new favorite crafting fabric.  I've been pondering some different ways to use it, and this is my latest "creation."

I took a hardback book that I haven't been able to sell on half.com

Then I shooed the cat away as he tried to burrow into the fabric.

I cut the burlap into strips the length and width of the book.

Then I began to glue the strips to the inside of the cover and wrap them around the width of the book.

Next I "wove" the shorter strips in lengthwise.

I pulled and tightened and adjusted and glued....

...until I had a nice, tight weave all around the book.

Then I took some pretty copper ribbon and glued it into the front and back covers to make a close-tie.

I also glued a little of the same ribbon on the cover.

And I'm done!  I am calling my experiment a success.

This would be a great way to spruce up a journal or photo album.  Christmas gifts, perhaps?

(P.S. In addition to some other fun parties, I'm also linking this to Polly Want A Crafter and The Shabby Chic Cottage!

  23. This is adorable! What kind of glue did you use? And also, how did you keep the burlap from fraying?
