Halloween Entrance Table

I love changing holidays and seasons, because they mean changing my decor.  This table always changes.

Halloween also just so happent to be one of my favorite holidays.  And cats just so happens to be my favorite animal.

Fall berries, tied with muslin, nesting inside a thrifted Oneida gravy boat.

A mason jar of popcorn kernals and white beans holds a tealight.

Dry moss and a wire pumpkin in a small galvanized metal bucket.

Hapy Halloween!

Coffee Table Re-redo

I've been so unhappy with my coffee table.  Part of it is the color.  It's way too white.  Part of it is the fact that my husband absolutely cannot be persuaded not to put his feet on it.

Gross, right?

So of course I went window shopping online. I love this lift-top coffee table, which is a lot like the one my parents have, and they love it.  This is a great storage end table (which would be great because our den is tiny!).  Or we could go for the whole coffee table set.

While I dream of different furniture and different and bigger dens, I decided to redo our current coffee table.  It's actually been redone before, as you can see here.

Step one was painting it "luxurious linen."  I got it as a free sample from Valspar!  It came with a small can of paint, tray, and roller.  (You can find out when they do another free sample promotion by liking them on Facebook!)  The color came out beautiful--no more stark white.

I also used Valspar antiquing glaze to add a little character.

Then for the fun part: deciding what to put on top.  I chose a tray I refinished....

a silver creamer with moss and two fabric rosettes...

and vintage mason jar with chicken wire.

Clean and simple!

Thoughts of Summer--An Entrance Table

Green grass, petunias, ocean breezes.  I love summertime.

The only part of my home that absolutely without question gets a regular seasonal makeover is my entrance table.

Here she is all ready for summer.

The pops of grass green here are what really reminds me of the warm season at its finest.

Here is a summery trinket tray. (It's also in my Etsy shop!)

A little metal bucket from Hobby Lobby. It's filled with packets of vegetable seeds (how about that for cheap, use-what-you-have-lying-around decorating!).

Silk tulips (from PB a million years ago when I worked there), and a framed bulb graphic from The Graphics Fairy.

One of my favorite silver platters, a topiary, and my trash-to-treasure apothecary jar.

Here is an adorable toile bird I found on sale at Hobby Lobby.

I just love this little faux mercury glass jar I found at Tuesday Morning.

Long, warm days are ahead!

Jar Centerpiece

This is the new centerpiece on my kitchen table.

Do you ever just get tired of what you have, and suddenly, everything you're doing has to stop so you can attend to the centerpiece emergency?  That's kind of how this was.

My current centerpiece had changed several times since my Christmas setup, and I'd never been really happy with it.  It just didn't "work."    (And the picture is blurry, which just adds to the sadness of the whole situation.)

Totally blah, totally uninspired.

I grabbed a few jars and put them in a basket I'm not using.

But it still looked weird.

I added our "piggy bank" jars where we save for specific things that we don't want to take out of the household fund.

I liked having the basket totally full of jars, but I was still far from satisfied.

Nothing about that runner and basket were working together, so I removed the runner.

Definitely getting warmer.

I grabbed a fabric swatch that I pulled out of a (hideous) old wallpaper book....

And I tucked it neatly into the edge of the basket.

I then added some yellow silk tulips (I love fake flowers, as you can see here) and craft moss into one of the corner jars and placed a stark white doily underneath the basket.

Much, much better, don't you think?

Emergency over.

Signs of Spring--An Entrance Table

After the opulence of Christmas and the overwhelming sweetness of Valentine's, I'm ready for a refreshing spring entrance table....

A fresh white tray, a yellow Vera Bradley plate, and a bluebird plaque, neatly stacked, all atop a green burlap and yellow toile runner.

Silk tulips in a metal tin (from back when I worked at PB, those were the days!), and a framed-with-toile bird egg print from The Graphics Fairy.

I removed the lid from my DIY apothecary jar and filled it with moss.

Happy Spring!

Valentine's Entrance Table

What can help cut through the bleak, gray days that follow the bright cheer of Christmas?

Valentine's sweetness!

This is my Valentine's entrance table....

It's the one area of my home that is always updated for each holiday.  I usually enjoy subtle holiday decore, so I went with neutrals and pinks to give it a Valentine's essence.

A few delicate pretties go on the pink toile wooden tray that I made over the holidays.

A small white pitcher, creamy hydrangeas, old books, and a white birdcage tealight holder.....

A creamy French flower bucket, pink and white flowers, the Valentine button art I made here, and a homemade apothecary jar. (What should I fill it with??)

XOXO!
