Button Eggs

Easter is of course an important holiday to us as Christians, but it is also so fun to decorate for!   When I think of Easter, I think of fresh colors and new starts.

That's probably why, even though Easter is almost two months away, I couldn't wait to start some Easter projects.

I hot glued some buttons (most of them are old--given to me by my Grandmother from her personal collection!) onto styrofoam eggs and stuck them on wooden dowels....nothing to it!

One I made from neutrals dotted with a little orange....

And the other is made of Easter pastels....

Anyone hunting eggs this year?

Happy early Easter!

Decorating: Using the Unexpected

I'm a pretty traditional girl.  I don't have an eclectic sense of style, and I don't take many decorating risks.

But I do like to occassionally use the unexpected.  I try to make my home a little more interesting and a little more personalized by taking ordinary things and using them in ways that aren't quite as ordinary.

It's not odd to see a bowl of fruit or potpourri...

but what about a bowl of buttons?

Or a wreath in a frame?

Tulips in a mug?

You don't always see a basket on the wall. With a plate in it.

Or moss in a silver creamer.

Or a topiary in a teacup!

I don't have a big decorating budget or tons of design talent, so quirky touches have to be my bread and butter.  Thanks to all the bloggers out there who inspire me and my projects!

A Few Valentine Sweets

It was a gloomy day here in southern Mississippi, so I brightened it by making a few Valentine "sweets" to adorn our home.  It was rainy, so I'm glad I had everything I needed--some file folders, ribbon, felt....just simple stuff!

It only took about 30 minutes  to paint an old frame white and arrange some pretty buttons on some felt scraps.

I glued loops of ribbon onto a file-folder cone to make a fun Valentine tree....

Sweet!

P.S.  I'm linking this up to the DIY Showoff.  To see what other parties I link to, see my Blog Parties Tab!)
