I Love the Color White

But isn't white actually a lack of color?  Anyway....

I have noticed that when picking clothes, dishes, decore, etc., I very often choose white.  At a football game recently, I realized I was wearing a white sweater, white peacoat, and white gloves!

This definitely carries over into my home.  I guess white is traditionally a summer color, but isn't it beautiful in this cold, wintry months?  And doesn't its purity give you a sense of calmness and serenity? It certainly does me!

Framed Candy Dish

Mixed in among shopping for Christmas, wrapping the gifts, putting the finishing touches on our Christmas decorations, and getting ready to "go home for Christmas" with my husband back to Georgia to visit our families, I've been working on some items for my Etsy shop, Cotton Breeze.

I found this frame at Goodwill for a few dollars. The color was quite unimpressive. 



Besides....I've always thought most anything looks better with a nice coat of white paint.  Nice and bright!

I cut a piece of cardboard to size and covered it with pretty blue toile fabric.

I love this candy/nut dish I found a few weeks ago at a local antique store.  I wanted to display it in a unique way, so I glued it to the fabric inside the frame.

I love the way the old wood frame soaked up the paint unevenly, leaving an aged, worn finish.

And who doesn't love the charming scenes of toile?

Quick Christmas Wreath


I was trying to forget about the fact that I didn't have a Christmas wreath on the door.

Then my husband pointed out to be that we're the only house in the neighborhood without a Christmas wreath, and he asked why I didn't "just make one." 

So, I decided to "just make one"....but I was determined to ONLY use things I had and under NO circumstances go buy any supplies.  Here is what I dug up...


A thin, rather sad-looking wreath that I have no memory of purchasing.

A yard or so of green tulle I got out of the sale bin at Hobby Lobby.

Some bronze bead garland, and one cat assistant.

No tricks.  No techniques.  I just wrapped.

Glued on some pine0 cones I stole from my own Christmas entry table....(nothing stays in one spot in my house for very long!

I added a some ribbon and a bow, and hung. 

Not too girly, but still festive...my husband approves!

Christmas Coasters

Recently I have seen several tutorials on various blogs regarding DIY coasters, and I've been smitten with them for awhile.  Of course, I decided today to try them for myself.

The finished product!

They are easier than you can imagine.

At Lowe's, I got cream-colored, slightly distressed tiles for thirty-something cents each. 

Pulled out some scrapbook paper.

Cut it to size, Mod Podged them on the tiles, and repeated.  This actually took awhile because I did quite a few coats (probably in the neighborhood of 7 or 8) because I wanted them to be really throroughly sealed since they'd be exposed to water.

I did two of each pattern to make a little set.

I also added felt pads to the bottom to prevent scratching.



Voila!  I'm adding these to my Etsy shop along with another similar set.

Our First Christmas Tree

Our Christmas tree is finally up! I so enjoyed making all the ornaments and getting to finally see them in use.

The garland is simply burlap strips tied together with some felt and buttons glued on along the way.

Here is a pretty one made from a Graphics Fairy graphic, sheet music, cardboard, and glitter.

Amos, wearing his Christmas finery, is my trusty companion in all that I do.

It has truly been a special experience to decorate our tree in our house during this first Christmas season as a married couple.  And it made it even more special that it means a lot to my husband, too!  He's a pretty sentimental guy, and we're definitely enjoying this time together.  I know we'll always remember sitting in our tiny first house and gazing at our tiny first tree.  I wouldn't trade it!
